Wizz Air halting its flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport

Budget airline Wizz Air has confirmed it will be stopping its flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA).

Wizz Air said all its routes would instead fly from Leeds Bradford Airport following the news that the South Yorkshire airport would be closed down by its owner – Peel Group.

Flights to Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca will switch from 31 October.

Passengers who have already booked will be automatically transferred to flights from Leeds Bradford Airport, the airline announced.

People will also be able to change their booking to an alternative flight free of charge, or cancel their flight and be refunded.

Peel Group has said it is having to shut DSA because the airport is not financially viable. But the decision has met with fierce opposition from regional leaders, who warn that South Yorkshire is going to lose a vital piece of transport infrastructure and a major source of employment.

Services at the airport, which employs 800 people, are due to begin winding down from 31 October.
