More Yorkshire branches to go in latest round of Barclays closures
Two more Yorkshire Barclays Bank premises will shut permanently this year in the latest round of cuts to high street branches.
Barclays has confirmed plans to shut 15 additional bank branches this year – including its base in Oxford Road, Guiseley, on 12 April and its branch at 390 Harrogate Road Leeds, on 21 April.
It comes on top of 11 sites already earmarked for closure in 2023 – taking the total number of Barclays banks closing their doors for good to 26.
One of the previously announced closures is also in Yorkshire – the Barclays branch in Manor Street, Bridlington – which will shut on 3 June.
Barclays customers have been advised they can also access certain facilities at Post Office branches including cash and cheque deposits, checking their balance and withdrawing cash.
Barclays is not the only bank to be withdrawing from the high street as more customers opt for online services instead.
HSBC has said it will close 114 banks – about a quarter of its total sites – in 2023. Lloyds is axing a further 14 banks next year, while NatWest currently has 43 scheduled to shut for good.
Santander and Halifax will close five each and Nationwide will shut one.
