Medical equipment provider eyes China for fresh export opportunities

Healthcare manufacturer, Brandon Medical, has set its sights on China to expand a global network for its technology.

The Leeds-based company – which earlier this month received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Innovation) for its Intelligent Theatre Control Panel (iTCP) – is forging new links with partners in China and Hong Kong Hong to take advantage of the export boom being witnessed in the region by UK manufacturers.

And in a separate move to further strengthen links with Hong Kong, Keith Jackson, Brandon Medical CEO, has been appointed chair of the Hong Kong UK Business Forum – a collaboration of businesses to promote economic ties and opportunities with Hong Kong.

Jackson said: “When thinking about exporting links, not many firms would consider Hong Kong. However, it’s emerging as a major player in global markets; and as a gateway to the Greater Bay Area it’s a very exciting place to do business.

“Our two cultures have extremely similar values, for example the importance of innovation, high-quality products, and good value for money.

“There’s a network of 47 business forums across the world with Hong Kong, and I’m extremely proud and privileged to have been chosen to represent the UK.”

Earlier this year a group of senior executives including Gilford Law, director-general of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London; and Andrew Davis, head of Invest Hong Kong visited Brandon Medical as part of a fact-finding mission to the area which also included a discussion with West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin.

Later this spring, Jackson will visit Hong Kong where he will be given a tour of the new hospital-build programme.

He added: “This will be a great opportunity to witness at first hand the amazing healthcare work that’s currently going on in Hong Kong and the Pearl River delta, and discuss opportunities for Brandon’s pioneering technology to be part of the programme to improve healthcare for 86 million people.”
