Unexploded bomb found at retail park

Meadowhall Retail Park in Sheffield was closed for several hours yesterday after workmen found an unexploded Second World War shell during groundworks.

Police and an rmy bomb disposal squad were called to the retail park at Sheffield Road in Carbrook, around 10.40am. The park was closed for around three hours, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

“Our officers and an army bomb disposal team attended and a cordon was put in place,” the police spokesperson said. “People were advised to avoid the area at this time while work was carried out and the device was removed by the bomb disposal team to be disposed of.”

The park has since reopened.
