People: BHP; Sky-House Co; Social; and more

Independent accountancy practice, BHP, has made 79 promotions across its office network.

They cover the company’s offices in Chesterfield, Sheffield, Leeds, York and Cleckheaton, span a range of departments and include recognition across accountancy, management and director positions.

Tax expert Emily Caine, based in Cleckheaton, has been promoted to director, while James Dunn, Danny Noon and William Wright have all been promoted to senior managers.

The news follows BHP recently confirming the appointment of 44 new trainees as part of its ongoing commitment to investing in future talent.

Sheffield’s Sky-House Co has appointed a new head of design management.

Ross Williams is a former junior technologist at Sheffield’s CODA Studios – the designers of the original Sky-House concept – and he has more recently been with architects Corstophine and Wright.

He is also a qualified Passivhaus designer – the voluntary standard for energy efficiency in buildings, reducing ecological footprint – adding to the Sky-House Co aim to push ever closer to its Net-Zero policy.

Williams will initially work alongside directors David Cross and Rebecca Prince, designing, refining and ultra-fine tuning the Sky-House raft of projects and also overseeing the company’s House Type Library.

He will liaise between Sky-House HQ and site teams on value engineering, design packages and also act as an interface with the CODA team and other design professionals.

Sky-House co-founder and director, David Cross, said: “This is a big role and one we are sure will help a great deal to move the company forward.

“The Sky-House story simply continues to gather momentum as we unveil each new site.

“With new developments at for Sky-House Co at Waverley and also in Sheffield city centre, both in Devonshire Green and now in Copper Street at Kelham Island, we are moving into a major new chapter and one in which Ross will be a key player.”

Communications agency, Social, has made several new appointments and promotions within its northern offices.

New arrivals include account manager Beth Chaplow and account executive Tilly Bratton, while Joshua Hammond has been promoted from senior account manager to account director and Brandon Henderson has been promoted to senior account executive.

Chaplow has joined Social after four years at an agency in Leeds, having worked in the property, education, travel and tourism, and food and drink sectors.

She is now working with Ahead Partnership, Extra MSA Group and Caddick Developments, among others.

She said: “Social’s purpose driven communications strategy and established reputation within the property and built environment sectors was what really drew me to the business.

“On top of that, its Life Happens policy and B Corp status convinced me that as well as being a highly regarded agency, it also seemed like a great place to work. Thankfully, I haven’t been disappointed and the team so far have been amazingly welcoming.”

Bratton joined earlier this year as account executive after completing an MA in International Public and Political Communication at the University of Sheffield.

She has so far worked with clients such as Cheshire and Warrington LEP, CLES and Ahead Partnership.

Hammond has been with Social since September 2021, having previously worked as a journalist at Newsco Insider and The CN Group. Amongst the clients he works with at Social are The Growth Company, NP11 and Muse.

He said: “After more than a decade as a journalist, I was initially a little apprehensive about joining a PR company, but knew that Social was the right place for me to learn and grow.

“It’s fantastic to be able to take on a new role as account director and continue to deliver great results for my clients.”

Henderson joined Social last year, having completed an MA in Political Communication at the University of Leeds and worked as a parliamentary intern to Dame Diana Johnson MP.

He works with clients such as Eurowind, Caddick Developments and NP11, and has already earned a promotion to senior account executive.

Muse has welcomed Stephen McManaman as the company’s director of project management for Yorkshire & North East. 

McManaman brings over 35 years’ experience leading regional project management teams at both Miller Construction, Harrison Developments and most recently as operations director at United Living (North). 

Achievements include becoming Yorkshire area director at Miller Construction, the delivery of the first phases of the £120m Points Cross development, which includes 498 homes and the refurbishment of a Grade II* listed building which became home to York City Council.
