Mayor visits carbon-capture firm following green jobs pledge

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin visited C-Capture’s Leeds headquarters on Friday to meet team members who have joined the company as part of its support of Mayor’s 1,000 Green Jobs in West Yorkshire Pledge.

The initiative is part of the West Yorkshire region’s commitment to reach net zero by 2038 and is driven by the Green Jobs Taskforce, created by the Mayor and made-up of experts from businesses, education, and the public sector. The taskforce sets out a roadmap to deliver the skills and jobs needed to address the climate emergency in West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority has supported C-Capture by connecting the business with local talent and helping them to upskill staff so they can build talent pipelines, increase productivity, and close skill gaps.

Tracy Brabin said, “We’re creating 1,000 green jobs for young people, and companies like C-Capture are helping us do this by taking on bright new apprentices. We’re working with businesses to upskill local talent, build resilience against flooding and boost sustainability to cut energy bills. Together, we’ll deliver a net zero-carbon region by 2038 and a brighter, greener West Yorkshire for all.”

C-Capture chief executive Tom White said: “We’re expanding rapidly as we aim to develop our next generation carbon capture technology to its maximum potential and make a globally significantly contribution to reaching net zero. Ensuring we have the right team of talented, committed people is integral to that plan – and we’re proud to have successfully recruited to the roles that we pledged as part of the Mayor’s green jobs initiative.”

C-Capture’s proprietary solvent-based technology captures carbon dioxide from emissions. Based on fundamentally different chemistry to other currently available carbon capture approaches, C-Capture’s solution is amine free and environmentally benign. Extremely robust, it is suitable for use in industries that are difficult to decarbonise.
