Council outlines regeneration priorities as it finalises budget

A Humber council is recommending spending £26.5m of its £167m budget for this year on “Economy and Growth.”
North East Lincolnshire Council is heading into the last two weeks of its budget consultation, which closes on 18 January.
The annual budget consultation document explains what the council is expecting to spend from April 2024 to the end of March 2025.
The council notes that it remains committed to the regeneration of both Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
It says that with grant funding support and the use of capital borrowing, it aims to transform key areas of the district especially central Grimsby and Cleethorpes, as well as improve peoples’ skills, training and health.
And the council outlines that is looking at selling some of its properties and land – a move which it says will reduce energy and running costs as well as cut the authority’s carbon footprint.
Portfolio holder for finance, Councillor Stephen Harness, said: “We need a better town centre, we need more good quality homes, and we need people who are skilled and healthy to take the opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, which are here now.”
