More than 80 new homes destined for village if planners agree

Wakefield-based housebuilder, Avant Homes West Yorkshire, has submitted plans to deliver a £20.4m multi-tenure development comprising 83 new homes in the village of Altofts, near Normanton.

Called Altofts Acres, the proposed six-acre development will be off Wharfedale Drive and consist of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes. Of the 83 properties, eight will be affordable.

If given the go ahead by Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council, work is expected to start on site in June, with the first residents anticipated to move into their new homes in February 2025.

Avant Homes West Yorkshire managing director, Richard Hosie, said: “We want to provide quality new homes for everyone in popular locations where people want to live.

“Altofts is just such a place. It has a great sense of community and provides residents with easy access to local amenities, Wakefield city centre and the M62.

“We also know there is high demand from people living locally, or thinking of moving to the area, for the type of practically designed, energy efficient new homes that we build.

“We now look forward to Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council’s response to our submission.”

Avant Homes West Yorkshire currently has nine live developments ranging from Wakefield to Waverley with many more due to start.

It is part of the Avant Homes Group which currently operates across the north of England, the Midlands and Scotland from nine regional operating businesses.

Avant Homes has invested in the internal expertise to develop and deliver strategic relationships with private rental sector investors as well as affordable housing providers.

The group recently confirmed the sale of 306 new homes across eight developments to a private rented housing provider, Sigma Capital Group, for over £59.5m.

Four of the developments are in north east England, two in Yorkshire with the balance in the East Midlands.
