Laser welding investment at engineering and fabrication company

Tadweld, an established specialist engineering, welding and fabrication business based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, is reaping the rewards of integrating laser welding technology.

Introduction of the technology was partly supported by a £20,000 Made Smarter grant – a programme aimed at enhancing digital capabilities and innovations in a range of businesses.

Laser welding brings with it new benefits compared to traditional welding methods, such as faster operating times, greater suitability for specific materials and lower risks of distortions.

Tadweld was established in 1983 as a small welding and fabrication company, initially serving a limited range of industries including agriculture and quarry developments.

It now develops and creates steelwork solutions for companies across the UK and Europe.

Due to its tailorable spot size, laser welding is particularly beneficial when joining thin or delicate metal parts together.

This will allow Tadweld to complete even more precise procedures for its clients, without causing heat-induced internal stresses, distortions and defects.

The business adds that it has been on a journey of digital transformation over the last 12 months, implementing cloud based CRM, digitising production management and installing app-based employee time management.

A spokesman for the firm said: “This investment aligns perfectly with our company value of Innovation. We are consistently seeking new and better ways of operating, through processes, people and in this case, cutting-edge equipment.

“Whilst we are still exploring the full range of the technology’s capabilities, initial results look very positive, especially in regards to cleanliness of weld area.

“Technology has been, and will continue to be a competitive advantage for us. Embracing and embedding new tools and digital solutions is essential for growth.

“I’m excited that we have several more significant investment plans for 2024.”
