Networking group hears journalist’s real-life global stories

Members of UK Israel Business (North East) (UKIB) heard stories from around the world at first hand during a networking breakfast.

Approximately 75 representatives from businesses across Leeds and West Yorkshire attended the event at the First Direct Arena with guest speaker Matt Frei, Europe editor and presenter at Channel 4 News.

Matt entertained delegates with first hand accounts of his experiences covering global news events over the years, the VIPs he’s interviewed, and the people he’s met.

After his anecdotes, the event opened up to questions from the floor which mainly focused on the ongoing Israeli conflict.

Chairman Colin Glass says: “We were delighted and honoured to secure such a high calibre speaker as Matt, and extremely grateful for him taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Leeds.

“He was an extremely interesting and amusing guest, and I’ve received nothing but positive feedback from everyone who attended.”

Prior to his appointment as Europe editor for Channel 4 News, Matt Frei was the Washington correspondent for two years and has reported on the Americas on everything from business and culture to US foreign policy and its view of the world.

He is also part of the presenting team across Channel 4’s news and current affairs portfolio, including the award-winning Dispatches programme.

UK Israel Business, the former British Israel Chamber of Commerce, is a business platform which nurtures dynamic growth and investment between the UK and Israel. It was founded in 1950.

As a not-for-profit membership-based organisation, UKIB is non-political and non-denominational. It provides a platform for businesses to establish, grow, and develop in both countries.

Its mission is to facilitate and encourage bilateral trade between companies and organisations in Israel and their counterparts in the UK, particularly in Leeds and the North East.

UKIB, in conjunction with the Economic and Trade Mission at the Embassy of Israel in London, hosts delegations from various industries, but particularly Healthcare, to Leeds and the North East. UKIB is also looking to organise a trade mission to Israel once the political situation improves.
