City briefs: Surgical Innovations and Powerhouse Energy Group
Surgical Innovations Group, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of technology for minimally invasive surgery, has appointed Chris Martin as chief financial officer and executive director of the Board, effective today – 10 June.
He takes over from interim financial consultant, Michael Roper, who will stay on to provide a handover and facilitate a smooth transition.
Martin brings with him over 20 years’ experience as a finance director in various manufacturing organisations.
His most recent role was with Weir Plc, where he served as regional finance director for Europe, North Africa, and Central Asia for six years.
Prior to this, from 2004, he held finance director positions with Jeld-Wen UK, Laing O’Rourke, The Latium Group, and Lafarge S.A..
He obtained an MBA in 2014 and began his finance career in Lafarge Roofing Ltd (part of Lafarge S.A, formerly Redland Plc) in 1990.
CEO at Leeds-based Surgical Innovations, David Marsh, said: “Chris brings a wealth of experience in growing and improving business performance, managing change, implementing new systems, and developing high-performing teams.

Powerhouse Energy Group, a Bingley-based company developing technology to convert non-recyclable waste into low carbon energy, says David Hitchcock, acting non-executive chairman, has been appointed full time non-executive chairman with immediate effect.
Paul Emmitt, chief executive officer, said: “The Board are happy that David has accepted the offer to become full-time chairman.
“We look forward to continuing to work with him and benefiting from his expertise in what we believe will be an exciting year ahead for the company.”
