Contractor awarded project to build headquarters for aerospace supplier
Britcon has been awarded an £8.9m contract to build an 80,000 sq ft sustainable unit at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.
The new unit will become the headquarters for Technicut, a business founded in Sheffield in 1987 that is now a global leader in solid rotary cutting tools for the aerospace industry. The project is scheduled to be completed next spring.
The AMP covers a 150-acre site close to the M1, and benefits from Government Enterprise Zone status.
Harworth secured outline planning consent to develop 2.1m sq. ft of employment space at the site in 2011. Over 1.5m sq. ft of space has been developed to date, with occupiers including Rolls Royce, Boeing, McLaren Automotive and the UK Atomic Energy Authority.
Nick Shepherd, Britcon managing director said: “We are excited to be working with the Harworth Group. We have developed a methodology to minimise our impact and ensure a safe, clean, and considerate site at all times. This is another significant investment for the region to support economic growth and deliver highly skilled jobs.”
As well as new production space, Britcon will deliver 13,600 sq ft of office accommodation.
The project will include several low carbon technologies to support achieving the target BREEAM Excellent rating, including PVs, LEDs, EV charging points, smart BMS and aggregate recycling.
