£4m price tag for historic former city technical college

A prominent Bradford educational building is up for sale for almost £4m.

The Grade II listed former Bradford Technical School was opened in 1882 by the Prince of Wales, and provided night classes for the city’s textile mill workers.

Later, it became part of Bradford College and eventually the University of Bradford.

The 150,000 sq ft building, in Great Horton Road, was the subject of a planning application to convert it into luxury apartments in 2021.

It was acquired by a property developer and in January 2022 was given planning in January 2022 for 189 residential units. It also has planning consent for a cinema, gym, restaurant and business lounge.

The Victorian era building still has many original features, including a lecture theatre-style classroom.

The agent for the property notes that it is “steeped in history”, adding: “This building lends itself to various opportunities as commercial space for businesses moving into the area or local businesses looking to expand.”
