Long established builders merchant faces potential administration

A builders merchant with bases in Rotherham, Hull, Goole and Scunthorpe has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.
Builders’ Merchant Company Ltd was the subject of a winding up petition earlier this month.
It employed an average of 42 staff in 2022, according to its unaudited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2022.
The same accounts show the business owed creditors more than £3.1m and had assets worth over £3.6m.
The firm’s website notes the company was founded in 1928 and has the largest independent timber and building supplies in Lincolnshire, based in Scunthorpe.
Builders’ Merchant Company opened its Hull Branch in 2016, the Rotherham Branch in 2018 and the Goole Branch in 2019.
