Construction begins on Lidl’s third York store

Discount supermarket chain, Lidl, has begun construction of its third store in York, located at Monks Cross Shopping Park.

Scheduled to open before the end of 2025, the store will feature a 16,300 sq ft sales area, including a bakery and customer toilets.

The investment will also create around 40 more jobs.

Liam Schofield, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “It’s fantastic to see construction underway at our newest York store.

“Our dedicated teams have worked incredibly hard over the past few years to reach this milestone, and we’re pleased to confirm we’re on track to welcome customers before the end of 2025.

“As well as creating dozens of jobs, this store will give residents even greater access to our high-quality, affordable products in an area where we’ve seen increasing demand.

“We will, of course, keep the community updated as work progresses.”
