Developer welcomes ‘pro-housebuilding agenda’ as growth returns

York-headquartered housebuilder, Persimmon, is highlighting a return to growth in 2024 with a 7% increase in home completions, as it issues its final results for the year ended 31 December 2024.
It achieved 10,664 completions in 2024 (2023: 9,922) alongside total group revenues of £3.20bn (2023: £2.77bn) and pre tax profits of £359.1m (2023: £351.8m).
Persimmon says it entered 2025 with an improved forward order book and has continued to add to it since the start of the year.
Dean Finch, group chief executive, said: “Persimmon’s disciplined investment and significant operational improvements in recent years has created a stronger business.
“This is demonstrated by our growth in 2024, with completions, outlets and profit all up.
“We are encouraged by the further improvement in our sales rates in the early weeks of this year.
“The Government’s welcome planning reforms and pro-housebuilding agenda demands more of the high-quality, affordable homes which are Persimmon’s core strength, providing a positive tailwind.”
The business adds that it is now targeting 11,000-11,500 completions in 2025, as well as further growth in profit and returns.
Persimmon notes it is aware of the potential impact from ongoing macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties, but stresses the underlying market fundamentals remain robust.
A new automated production line in the company’s Space4 timber frame factory is expected to further enhance build efficiency and mitigate anticipated industry skills shortages.
And the firm says a planned second timber frame factory, together with innovations such as a brick façade product and construction management digitisation, will provide further efficiency benefits.
