Planned energy park could generate enough power for 250,000 homes

Calderdale Wind Farm Ltd (CWFL) has put forward plans for a new energy park in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
The project at Walshaw Moor features up to 41 wind turbines – a reduction from the 65 previously proposed for the site – and a battery energy storage system.
With an installed capacity of approximately 300 megawatts (MW), Calderdale Energy Park would be capable of generating enough electricity to power the equivalent of about 250,000 homes and cut national CO2 emissions by approximately 354,000 tonnes each year.
A six-week non-statutory consultation on the proposals has launched and closes on 10 June 2025, with the public invited to find out more and help shape the final proposal.
CWFL first revealed plans for an onshore wind farm at Walshaw Moor in September 2023, when it was known as Calderdale Wind Farm.
The current revised layout publicised today comprises a reduction of 24 turbines and removes the solar panel elements originally proposed.
Calderdale Energy Park has been designated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero due to:
- its capability of generating over 100 MW of electricity;
- its role in enabling an energy system that meets the UK’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions;
- and its role in helping to meet the Government’s objectives to create a secure, reliable and affordable energy supply for consumers
This means Calderdale Energy Park will require a Development Consent Order (DCO) from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
As part of the NSIP process, CWFL is undertaking a public consultation programme, alongside detailed technical and environmental assessments.
Following a review of the responses received from this consultation, alongside further survey work, design work and assessments, CWFL will hold a formal statutory consultation on its updated plans later this year.
