Home buyers and sellers have been left in limbo after a solicitors firm closed its doors citing "regulatory matters".
Butterworths has branches in Kendal, Penrith, Carlisle and Whitehaven and is part of Sheffield-headquartered PM Law Group.
A sign posted on the door of the firm's Kendal branch states: "Due to regulatory matters, the PM Group of Businesses carried out within this building can no longer trade."
