Credit union’s record lending in first quarter ‘shows the scale of demand’
Leeds Credit Union has underwritten £3m of lending in the first three months of 2026, with a record £1.2m lent in March alone.
The credit union estimates the lending could save borrowers across Leeds £2.3m in high-interest repayments compared with high-cost doorstep lenders.
The record quarter comes as the government backs a new £30m Credit Union Transformation Fund through Fair4All Finance, alongside plans to change membership rules to help credit unions grow.
