Forecast cost of ‘hugely complex’ station gateway project soars above £60m
The cost of York's Station Gateway project has been forecast to rise above £60m, with delays meaning a further £5.4m is needed for the scheme.
The ambitious project aims to transform the area surrounding York Railway Station by shifting traffic, improving safety and creating a welcoming, pedestrian-orientated arrival space.
Regeneration of the area at the front of the station began in 2023, with an original budget of around £26m with works supposed to finish in May last year.
