Ware & Kay Solicitors is celebrating two senior appointments within Yorkshire’s legal community.

Managing director David Hyams has been appointed vice president of the Yorkshire Law Society and associate Bethany Worthy appointed president of the Scarborough Law Society.

Hyams will go on to become president of the Yorkshire Law Society in May 2027.

As vice president, and in preparation for taking on the role of president from May next year, he is helping to represent and support solicitors across the region, championing the highest professional standards while promoting collaboration, innovation and the continued development of the legal profession.

He said: “It is a tremendous honour to serve as vice president of the Yorkshire Law Society and to be preparing to take on the role of president from May 2027.

“Yorkshire has an outstanding legal community, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to represent and support the profession across the region.

“Throughout my career I have been passionate about building strong relationships, encouraging collaboration and ensuring that the legal profession continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our clients and communities.

“I look forward to serving both the Yorkshire Law Society and the wider legal profession during my presidency and helping to inspire the next generation entering the profession.”

Worthy, an associate in the Wills & Probate team at Ware & Kay’s Malton office, has been been actively involved with the Scarborough Law Society and its committee for many years.

The society brings together legal professionals from across the local area to network, share knowledge and build lasting professional relationships.

Alongside its professional activities, the society plays an active role in the local community by fundraising for local charities and supporting students pursuing careers in law.

Worthy said: “I have been a member of the Scarborough Law Society for many years and have served on the committee for most of that time.

“We have a fantastic community of professionals, and during my term as president I hope to grow our membership, expand our programme of events, and continue strengthening the society’s contribution to the local community.”

SPG Resourcing is expanding into the UK’s £146.9bn life sciences sector with the launch of a new specialist recruitment division.

The Leeds-based technology talent business has appointed experienced life sciences recruiter Nathan Sharpe as head of practice, Life Sciences, to establish and grow the new operation.

SPG Resourcing has built its business around providing specialist technology talent in areas including software engineering, cybersecurity and data science.

The launch of its life sciences practice represents a significant diversification as the group continues to expand its capabilities in high-growth, technology-led markets.

Sharpe joins following more than seven years working in specialist recruitment, with a particular focus on life sciences, deep technology and AI for science.

Most recently, he was business lead at Skills Alliance, where he led its Life Sciences practice in Leeds and focused on building computational, machine learning and research teams for Deep-Tech and AI4Science companies.

He previously held roles with Factor Search and spent five years at Charlton Morris, where he was part of the Life Sciences leadership team and built a recruitment team from scratch.

He said: “Life sciences is going through a significant period of change. Advances in AI, computational science and data are changing how companies approach everything from drug discovery to diagnostics, but those advances depend on having access to people with highly specialised skills.

“The scale of the UK sector makes the opportunity clear, but this is also an international talent market.

“The businesses developing new therapies, technologies and scientific platforms are competing for a relatively small pool of people capable of turning ambitious science into working models, software and ultimately new discoveries.

“SPG already has deep expertise in technology talent, and my job is to build a specialist practice that combines that capability with genuine knowledge of the scientific markets we serve.”

The new life sciences practice will complement SPG Resourcing’s existing technology recruitment capabilities, with a particular focus on areas where science and technology increasingly overlap, including computational science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data and research.

Sam Hameed, managing director of The Solution Performance Group, added: “The launch of our life sciences division is a strategic step for SPG Resourcing.

“We have built our reputation around helping organisations find specialist technology skills quickly and effectively, and we are increasingly seeing those skills converge with science.

“The UK has a life sciences industry approaching £150bn in annual turnover and employing around 360,000 people.

“At the same time, AI, data and computational technologies are becoming fundamental to how that industry develops.

“That creates a substantial opportunity for a recruitment business which understands both specialist talent and technology.

“Nathan has the sector knowledge, network and experience of building teams and markets that we need to turn that opportunity into a significant new practice for SPG.

“His appointment gives us an experienced leader who can build the division from Leeds while developing relationships with life sciences businesses across the UK and internationally.”

Premier Technical Services Group (PTSG) has appointed David Newcombe as director of lean transformation.

Newcombe, who will report to Alison Chard, PTSG’s chief performance officer, brings more than 30 years’ experience in operational excellence and business transformation across the aviation, automotive and biologics sectors.

A certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, he was most recently head of operational excellence, strategic projects and PMO at Lonza Biologics.

Earlier in his career, he held a series of senior positions at Heathrow Airport, including head of continuous improvement, where he developed improvement programmes across one of the UK’s most complex operational environments and established the airport’s first continuous improvement network.

The appointment comes during a period of expansion for PTSG. Headquartered in Castleford, the group operates across five principal divisions: Access & Safety, Electrical Services, Building Access Specialists, Fire Solutions and Water Treatment, delivering more than 170 specialist services.

Following its recent acquisition of IDSL Group Holdings, which significantly expanded PTSG’s passive fire compliance capabilities, the group now employs around 4,000 people.

Newcombe’s remit will centre on improving operational performance across the enlarged group, simplifying processes, eliminating waste, improving productivity and embedding greater consistency and continuous improvement.

Chard said: “Scale brings opportunity, but it also places a premium on operational discipline. As PTSG continues to grow, we need to ensure that our systems and processes develop at the same pace.

“David has spent his career improving performance within large and complex organisations. His role will be about making PTSG simpler, faster, more consistent and more effective, while ensuring that improvement translates into better outcomes for our customers and sustainable value for the group.”

Newcombe’s appointment forms part of a wider transformation programme led by Chard, whose remit encompasses strategic growth, operational efficiency and long-term value creation across the group.
