Derelict former bank to be turned into offices
A former bank on the Port of Grimsby is to be transformed into modern office space.
Known previously as the Midland Bank, Ice and Ocean and Ocean House the building will be revived through the PSiCA (Partnership Scheme in Conservation Areas) scheme.
PSiCA aims to support the regeneration of a collection of historic buildings on the Port of Grimsby, such as the now renovated Alfred Enderby’s smokehouse and The Great Escape.
The former Midland Bank, on Fish Dock Road, will be the latest in a series of projects to help retain the heritage associated with these buildings.
The building is between Solly’s Café and Tom Taylor’s. The PSiCA funding includes cash for the restoration of the shop front, as well as repairs to windows, brickwork and the roof.
In addition, the tenant will be carrying out a full programme of internal repairs such as new floors, a kitchenette, toilets, ground floor office and an architect studio on the first floor.
Councillor Oliver Freeston, leader and portfolio holder for strategic renewal, delivery and place leadership, said: “It’s great to see more investment in the Port of Grimsby.
“It is hugely important to our history and those buildings should be restored and protected wherever possible.
“It’s also great to see businesses operating from these spaces, their continued support shows what a successful area we are.”
