Wakefield hotel plan moves a step closer with £8m backing
Plans to build a new city centre hotel in Wakefield are moving forward, with work expected to start next summer on a development backed by up to £8m of public funding.
ION Property Developments is set to deliver a hotel with at least 110 rooms on the site of the former Westgate station, next to Wakefield Westgate railway station.
The scheme is designed to capitalise on growing demand from tourists and business travellers, with the city hoping to persuade more visitors to stay overnight and spend money locally.
