Hadley to provide spark at Firecracker Ball

FORMER Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley is to provide the main entertainment at this year’s Firecracker Ball, one of the highlights of the Yorkshire business calendar.

The theme of the event will be winter wonderland based on CS Lewis’s Narnia books, which have been turned into movie blockbusters.

And UBS Wealth Management and law firm Dickinson Dees have backed this year’s event, which is expected to attract more than 800 people, as co-sponsors.

The ball, which is taking place at Rudding Park in Harrogate on November 12, raises funds for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

Evans Property Group also retains lead sponsorship for the event which this year aims to reach a £1m fundraising milestone since its launch in 2002.

Director Karen Vardy of UBS, which has opened an office in Leeds, said: “We are delighted to support the Firecracker Ball.  It is one of the most recognised events in Yorkshire and achieves tremendous success for a very worthy cause; just the sort of event we want to align our brand with.”

John Marshall, senior partner at Dickinson Dees, said: “We are pleased to be involved with this prestigious Yorkshire event.

Dickinson Dees is committed to growing its presence in the region, including its involvement in such worthy charitable events as the Firecracker Ball.

“We are delighted that a member of our team, Claire Brook, a partner in our Yorkshire office, has been able to play a role on the organising committee to help plan the event.”

Phil Taylor, Firecracker Ball committee chairman, said: “We are extremely grateful to receive such generous support from Evans, UBS and Dickinson Dees. We fully appreciate that in these hard times businesses have to be much more selective about what they support and so we are of course delighted that the Firecracker Ball is considered to be a good ‘investment’ for such high calibre businesses.”

The benefactor for 2011 will be young carers – children who help look after a member of the family who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems, or is misusing drugs or alcohol. The average age of a young carer is 12 and there are approximately 175,000 young carers in the UK.

TheBusinessDesk.com is media partner to the event.

In previous years the Firecracker Ball has entertained close to 1,000 guests at each event with special performances from major acts including Lulu, Billy Ocean, Heather Small, ABC, the Drifters and Gabrielle.
