Leeds regeneration given boost at MIPIM
PLANS to create a 'five star business district' in Leeds were at the heart of an event designed to promote the city's approach to planning and urban design.
Rick de Blaby, of MEPC, who is also chairman of the West End Leeds Partnership, a body established to create a new urban quarter in the city, told an audience at the international property conference MIPIM in France plans for the area would create “one of the most exciting regeneration areas in the country”.
Mr de Blaby said: “For this massive area next to the railway station to be in the hands of only six organisations is quite remarkable in the UK.”
Comprising five developers – Bruntwood, HBG Properties, KW Linfoot, MEPC and Town Centre Securities – working in collaboration with Leeds City Council, the partnership is set to deliver 3m sq ft of office accommodation, 186,000 sq ft of retail space and around 3,000 apartments, as part of a £1bn development in Leeds.
Meanwhile, the move by the Location Leeds team from a yacht to an apartment at MIPIM has been success, according to officials.
The only negative about the move to the apartment. which is located above Cartier on La Croisette, has been the necessity to dismantle parts of the garden marquee on a nightly basis due to the unseasonal blustery weather, an insider said.
