In Brief: Law Society award for LCF; UBS appoints desk head; and more

YORKSHIRE law firm Last Cawthra Feather (LCF) is celebrating after being judged a winner at the 2011 national Law Society Excellence Awards.

The firm won the Innovation category for its new LEGAL365.com service.

LCF managing partner Simon Stell said: “By launching LEGAL365, LCF has embraced change to respond to the forthcoming changes in the legal market and this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our development team and the support of the whole firm. We are honoured to be recognised by our profession for the work we are doing.”

LCF teamed up with Freeserve co-founder Ajaz Ahmed to develop LEGAL365.com, a service that gives customers access to legal services, which are fixed price and available all year round.

UBS has announced the appointment of Andrew Aitken as desk head for its newly established Yorkshire office, based in Leeds.

Mr Aitken, originally from Guisborough, joined UBS in 2007 and has been deputy desk head of one of the private wealth management desks of its domestic business for the past two years.

He will start his new role on January 1, and will be working with the Leeds team to deliver UBS’s wealth management services to high net worth clients in the Yorkshire region.

LEADING engineering consultancy and energy specialist Parsons Brinckerhoff, part of the Balfour Beatty group, has joined Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) as its latest member.

Emma Toulson, project manager, renewables for Parsons Brinckerhoff, said the company was keen to capitalise on opportunities in the Humber area.
 
Ms Toulson said: “We are particularly attracted by the region’s growing expertise and importance in the renewable sector including projects such as the Hornsea and Dogger Bank offshore wind farms and tidal stream power projects. The Humber is a key, long-term location for us.”
