Investor network promises a ‘refreshingly’ different approach

ANGELS Den, a company which match-makes firms needing funding with potential investors, is launching in Leeds.

Angels Den is one of the largest ‘angel’ networks in the UK and Europe with more than 3,000 registered business angels who are keen to invest in entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.

It Leeds launch will be on April 15 at the Alea Casino starting at 6pm. Senior representatives from Yorkshire Forward, YABA, TechMesh and the Business Enterprise Fund will be there on the night.

According to founder Bill Morrow, the network offers a “refreshingly” different type of angel investing, which is accessible to the “person in the street”.

He said: “We are delighted to be launching Angels Den in Leeds. Not only is it a vibrant, buzzy city it’s also a hotbed of entrepreneurial talent.”

Among the events on offer is SpeedFunding – a concept similar to speed dating – where entrepreneurs have three minutes to pitch their business idea to up to 15 potential investors.

Mr Morrow said that SpeedFunding was a quick and simple way to ensure that the best ideas from yorkshire got funding.

“Unlike Dragon’s Den it is not intimidating for entrepreneurs as they are able to engage with the angel investor,” he added.

“We are not looking to slay any entrepreneurs at Angels Den. Angel investors are drawn to entrepreneurs with passion and vision. We find most deals are based on personality with the angel seeing some spark and almost investing in the person rather than the idea.”

Around 90% of entrepreneurs gain interest from a minimum of one angel and some have succeeded in attracting as many as 10.
