University to honour M&S CEO

MARKS and Spencer chief executive Marc Bolland is to be awarded an honorary degree by York St John University.

Mr Bolland was chief executive at Yorkshire supermarket chain Morrisons before taking over the top role at M&S from Sir Stuart Rose last year.

He began his career at Heineken NV in the Netherlands in 1987 and filled s series of global marketing and sales management rolese before becoming chief operating officer in 2005.

In addition to his role at M&S he is currently non-executive director of Manpower Inc US, and has previously held non-executive Director roles at Hotel de I’Europe and Quilmes.

Mr Bolland will be presented with the honorary degree of doctor of business administration at a ceremony at York Minster on November 16.
