Hodgkinson to champion chartered directors

FORMER Yorkshire Forward chairman Terry Hodgkinson is to take a role as an ambassador for the Chartered Institute of Directors.

Mr Hodgkinson will work to encourage both large and small businesses to support their directors in achieving chartered status.

He said: “I invested a lot of my own time in achieving my own chartered status so appreciate what it means to those who do. I want others to understand the investment and determination demanded of those who work towards Chartered status.

“There seems to be a reticence on the part of SMEs and PLCs to invest in senior personnel who are prepared to put their own time and effort into achieving these qualifications for the ultimate benefit of the businesses they work for.

“In times of recession there is a temptation to cut back on training but it leaves businesses vulnerable when the recovery comes. Now if the time to invest so that these people can help their businesses survive the downturn and be ready for the recovery.”

Peter Webster, chairman of the Yorkshire Chartered Directors said: “Terry’s appointment presents a great opportunity to raise the profile of chartered director  as the gold standard professional qualification for all sizes of company within our region.

“I look forward to working alongside Terry to show the value that the qualification can bring to the regional economy at a time when so much depends on the performance of business leaders in creating real growth and new employment opportunities.”
