Communisis on target

PRINTING and marketing communication group Communisis today said that trading during the first quarter of the year had hit forecasts and it is pushing ahead with a series of new business opportunities.

The Leeds-based group, which saw Andy Blundell step up from the role of sales director to replace outgoing chief executive Steve Vaughan at the end of last year, said that changes to its direct mail business are already underway.

The addition of a Hewlett Packard high-speed colour digital printing system at its Leeds plant will allow the group to supply its clients with full-colour products personalised for each individual they are sent to.

“This unique technology is changing the landscape in the direct mail market by enabling our customers to access personalised full-colour messaging at unparalleled output speeds,” said the company in an interim management statement covering the three months to March 31.

Communisis said that the move would result in older offset printing equipment being removed from its Leeds factory which will result in some restructuring costs before the end of its first half “with benefits being realised in future periods”.

The company also said that the second phase of restructuring to its group pension scheme is underway and it will provide an update on progress at the time of its interim results in August.
