‘High calibre’ tenants for trade park

A TRADE park has entered its second stage of development following the exchange of contracts with two leading brands.

The deal, which secures more than 30% of the remaining space at Barnsley Trade Park, has seen Screwfix and Nationwide Auto Centres take 5,000 sq ft and 4,000 sq ft respectively.

Comprising a range of speculatively built trade and industrial units between 3,000 and 21,500 sq ft, the site is located adjacent to Barnsley Retail Park.

Jewson’s took occupation of the entire 18,000 sq ft of phase one.

Jonathon White, senior surveyor at Sanderson Weatherall who acted for the landlord, Five Rivers Properties, on the latest deals, said: “The inclusion of two national trade counter brands is clearly positive for the park and after a two year delay phase two can now get started.

“The market has been challenging over recent times, these lettings signal a boost for the Barnsley area and local economy, a trend which I hope will continue.”

Robert Whatmuff, head of agency at Lambert Smith Hampton and joint agents on the scheme, said: “Following the initial success with Jewson Ltd on phase one, the economic climate has provided a difficult trading environment, particularly on new build space.

“However, the excellent location and prominence of the subject site has driven strong interest from other national trade operators and we are please to sign up occupiers of this calibre.”

“Further discussions with other national names are ongoing and we are confident of adding to the tenant line up in the near future. This is excellent news for Barnsley.”
