Yorkshire developer marks milestone with ambitious project

A NORTH Yorkshire property developer is to celebrate its tenth birthday by unveiling the greenest and most ambitious project in its history.
Hawksmoor Court – a flagship £3m development in the heart of Ripon and named after the architect of the city's famed obelisk – heralds the start of a new era of investment by Harrogate-based Sundawn Properties.
All five of the architect-designed homes are being built using eco-friendly timber frames.
Managing director Greg Smallwood: “This is an important first for Sundawn – but it will not be the last time we draw upon the benefits of this method of construction. Technological advances have propelled timber frame construction into the 21st century as a form of precision engineering. Harnessing its attributes, it is very much a case of going back to the future to reap the advantages for our customers. Timber frame has the lowest CO2 cost of any commercially-available building material and by its very nature is a renewable resource – an increasingly-important factor for today's home-buyers.”
The development has been named to commemorate the ground-breaking work of 17th century architect Nicholas Hawksmoor – who worked with the likes of Sir Christopher Wren on St Paul's Cathedral, Chelsea Hospital and Kensington Palace and Sir John Vanburgh of Castle Howard and Blenheim Palace fame.
Since launch, Sundawn has focused its business on building homes of distinction across Yorkshire's 'golden triangle', including prime sites in Harrogate, Tollerton, Alne, and the centre of York – including a prestigious conversion of a former nursing home overlooking the Knavesmire into five houses.
