Healthy deal for Nuffield

HEALTHCARE charity Nuffield Health has acquired the 15-strong chain of Greens Health & Fitness centres from the De Vere Group in an undisclosed deal.

The fitness centres include outlets in Birmingham and Stoke, plus Liverpool, Shipley, Wakefield and Sheffield.

Nuffield said the deal took it a step closer to its ambition of ensuring a larger proportion of the UK population was able to benefit from its unique approach to health and fitness.

The Greens deal reinforces Nuffield Health as one of the UK’s largest social enterprises and builds on a growth strategy which began in 2007 with the acquisition of Cannons gyms and was followed in 2010 with the purchase of the Bladerunner corporate fitness group.

The latest deal sees Nuffield Health’s overall membership rise to around 300,000 across 66 consumer and 200 corporate sites, making it the sixth largest provider of fitness and wellbeing services in the UK.

David Mobbs, group chief executive, said: “The acquisition of Greens Health & Fitness is an important step towards achieving Nuffield Health’s strategic ambition of a national network of fitness and wellbeing facilities, supporting more members to get fitter and healthier.

“The acquisition will allow UK health consumers to benefit from the unique proposition Nuffield Health provides and maximise the number of members who are able to achieve their fitness and wellbeing goals and get healthier.

“Our newest members will be supported by the UK’s largest healthcare charity which reinvests all its profits into improving its wellbeing services.”
