HARROGATE Chamber of Trade and Commerce has appointed Yorkshire law firm McCormicks as its legal advisers.

McCormicks partner Neil Goodrum has become the Chamber’s honorary legal adviser following its 2008 Annual General Meeting.

Mr Goodrum, who heads McCormicks’ employment law department, has extensive experience of commercial and civil disputes and has mediation expertise.

He said: “This appointment reflects our continued commitment to Harrogate and its surrounding area. It is a great pleasure to work with the Chamber at a time when it is so active.

“The huge success of the recent Yorkshire Business Market and the fact that chief executive Brian Dunsby has been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion are both very positive indications of its strength.”

Once planning consent has been granted, further funding of £12m will be provided by a major bank in the form of long-term senior debt.

CONSTRUCTION employers in Yorkshire are missing out on the top talent of the future – but there is still time to snap up a student.

Almost 1,000 of the UK’s brightest young people looking to take a construction degree have applied to the ConstructionSkills Inspire Scholarship Scheme – 85 of which are from Yorkshire – but so far there are just two potential local employers signed up.

Inspire matches the employer with a shortlist of young people looking for support.

Students take part in a 10-week placement after the first year and could be offered a full-time position at the end of their degree.
