LEEDS and Bradford law firm Gordons has strengthened its construction department with the appointment of solicitor Michael Oakes.

Mr Oakes was previously at Ford & Warren where he worked as a solicitor in commercial property litigation. In his new role he will be responsible for handling both dispute resolution and non-contentious work.

Mr Oakes said: “This is a great opportunity to join one of the most progressive law firms in the region. My background and experience complement the existing skills of those within the team and I’m looking forward to playing my part in the construction department’s continued success.”

Richard Piper, head of construction at Gordons, added: “Michael is a talented lawyer with a very bright future, so we are delighted that he has decided to join Gordons. His appointment is indicative of the increased number of instructions the construction department has received over the past six months, and Michael’s proven litigation skills will enable us to continue to grow at pace.”

GLOBAL property consultancy Knight Frank has promoted four staff at its Leeds office.

Tom Lamb, Paul Hallam, Greg Millar and Mark Bailey have all been appointed associates.

Tom LambMr Lamb, pictured, joined Knight Frank’s industrial property department in 2007 following five years working in Sheffield with Fuller Peiser, where clients included Gazeley and Prologis on various high profile schemes across Yorkshire.

Mr Hallam joined Knight Frank’s valuations team in 2006 from SHM Smith Hodgkinson in Leeds, while Mr Millar, who also works in valuations, moved from Lambert Smith Hampton in London to Knight Frank in 2004.
 
Mr Bailey is a former Sheffield and North Yorkshire hotelier who came from Christie and Co in Leeds to join Knight Frank’s expanding hotels department in 2006.

MEANWHILE, commercial property consultancy Knight Frank has boosted its Sheffield profile with the promotion of chartered surveyor Rebecca Schofield to associate.

Ms Schofield, 27, from Woodseats in Sheffield, has worked at Knight Frank’s Sheffield office for 18 months.

She studied for a BSc in Urban Land Economics at Sheffield Hallam University, before qualifying as a chartered surveyor during a three-year stint with Lambert Smith Hampton.

Ms Schofield is one of four in Knight Frank’s Agency and Development team, led by partner, Peter Whiteley.
