Former FBI chief joins Datong

DATONG, the company which develops intelligence and surveillance systems to track terror suspects, has appointed a former police chief as the president of its US subsidiary.
Louis Quijas will be responsible for increasing the Leeds-based group’s presence in the States and to drive growth through the Datong Electronics subsidiary.
His role will also include the expansion of the company’s customer base into the South American markets.
Mr Quijas, a former police officer for 25 years and Chief of Police for six years, was the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s assistant director heading the Office of Law Enforcement Coordination in Washington DC.
Brian Smith, chief executive of Datong, said Mr Quijas was a recognised leader in the security sector having established the FBI’s program for strategic co-ordination with law enforcement partners following the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York on September 11.
He has been an elected member of a number of major law enforcement boards including the International Association of Police Chiefs (ICAP) and the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) on information technology systems.
Mr Smith said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Louis Quijas as president of Datong Electronics. His wealth of experience in law enforcement and the FBI as well as his strong understanding of the defence industry will be invaluable to the company.
“Louis joins us at an exciting stage and we look forward to working with him in strengthening our existing and future products in the US and, ultimately, to take full advantage of the strong US market potential.”
Mr Quijas will take up his position on August 4.
