New tenant makes home at Plaza

A MAJOR development has secured its first office tenant.
Berneslai Homes has taken 16,100 sq ft at Landmark Development Projects and Quest Property’s £70m Gateway Plaza mixed-use scheme in Barnsley.
In a deal secured for Gateway Plaza by office agents Jones Lang LaSalle, Berneslai Homes has taken the space on a 10 year lease at an undisclosed sum.
Berneslai Homes manages around 20,000 homes on behalf of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The independent company works in partnership with the Council to deliver housing services to the town’s residents.

Helen Correy, chief executive of Berneslai Homes, said; “We have been looking to relocate from our offices at Springfield Street in Barnsley and were impressed with the Grade A office accommodation within Gateway Plaza.
“The development is leading the town centre regeneration of Barnsley and we are confident that the quality of the offices themselves and the strategic location at the gateway to the town will greatly benefit our employees. We are currently located outside of the town centre, but are keen to support its regeneration. It will be nearer public transport links and the 160 staff relocating there will help town centre businesses.”
Chris Gilman, director of Landmark Development Projects, said: “We are delighted to have secured Berneslai Homes as our anchor office tenant, the high profile organisation is well respected throughout the borough.
“Having always stated that our strategy for the occupancy of Gateway Plaza was to place local enterprises alongside national occupiers, following our deal with the National chain Whitbread for the Premier Inn and restaurant at the end of last year, this latest deal takes us well on our way to realising our initial vision for the development.”
Adam Hodgson, associate ddirector of Jones Lang La Salle, which is joint office agents on Gateway Plaza with Lambert Smith Hampton and Smiths Chartered Surveyors, added: “Gateway Plaza perfectly met Berneslai Homes’ criteria for high specification offices in a prime town centre location. In securing yet another high profile tenant, Gateway Plaza is further cementing its reputation as one of South Yorkshire’s most exciting regeneration schemes.”
