Spin out decision for Cellhire

CELLHIRE, the York-based mobile communications firm, has demerged its mobile surveillance business Wireless CCTV to focus on growing other part of its business.

The firm, which has around 44,000 active connections globally with operators such as O2, Vodafone, and Orange, said that it was anticipating revenues in excess of £19m for this year as a result of the decision.

Wireless CCTV, which will operate as a stand alone company, is targeting revenues of £6m in its new financial year.

The spin-out, which has offices in London and Rochdale, supplies covert and overt CCTV solutions using 3G mobile phone networks.

Cellhire was founded in 1987 and is seen as a leader in mobile telecoms with offices in Seattle, New York, Paris, Tokyo and London.

In 2005, it was awarded the Queens Award for International Trade and earlier this year announced that it had set a new world record for the number of rental handsets deployed with business clients at any one time.

Cellhire caters for demand in the short term mobile marketplace, where customers may need a device or devices for foreign business trips, special events / exhibitions, or even to evaluate on a ‘try-before-you-buy’ basis.

It is looking to open a Munich office next year in partnership with O2 Germany , which is part of the Telefonica group.
