‘It’s as easy to sell to Korea as Keighley’

CHAMBER International believes the ‘We Are International’ campaign will “mobilise an army of new exporters”.

The campaign aims to add £2.6bn to the Leeds City Region economy by helping businesses to export.

The Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership has teamed up with UK Trade & Investment and Chamber International, based in Bradford, for the campaign.

Central to the campaign is the formation of an ‘Export Network’, a team of highly-experienced export ‘champions’ and ‘ambassadors’, who will mentor and offer advice to novice or inexperienced exporters.

According to Chamber International, which offers support to Yorkshire companies looking to export, only 7% of businesses do any exporting at all.

Tim Bailey, international trade director of Chamber International, said: “Our aim is to mobilise an army of new exporters for a global campaign. Our export champions and ambassadors will demystify exporting and take away the fears many firms have about selling abroad.

“These days it’s as easy to sell to Korea as it is to Keighley if you have the right support behind you. British goods are highly regarded around the world. The opportunities are there and we can help.

“Firms which continue to rely on a declining domestic market may well go the way of the dinosaurs.”

The campaign will be launched in the new year.
