Yorkshire and Humber’s engineering best in awards battle
KODAK'S Leeds-based operation, Saint Gobain in Eggborough, Scunthorpe's Skymark Performance Films and Halifax firm InterfaceFLOR are among 14 UK manufacturers named as finalists for the Barclays Factory of the Year award.

KODAK in Leeds, Saint Gobain in Eggborough, Scunthorpe’s Skymark Performance Films and Halifax firm InterfaceFLOR are among 14 UK manufacturers named as finalists for the Barclays Factory of the Year award.

The Cranfield School of Management and Works Management awards programme is seen as the engineering Oscars with 12 categories up for grabs including best process plant, best engineering plant, best small company, most improved plant and best household and and general products plant award.

The overall winner will receive the coveted Barclays Factory of the Year award. All entrants receive a free benchmarking report to help them measure themselves against their competitors and to help them improve and innovate.

Kodak, Saint Gobain, Skymark and InterfaceFLOR, which is considered a world leader in the production of environmentally responsible modular floor coverings and other textiles, will be battling out against a diverse range of manufacturers including pizza base producer Bakkavor Pizza and chewing gum manufacturer Wrigley.

Dr Marek Szwejczewski, director of the best factory awards. said that awards aimed to acknowledge engineering excellence in the UK.

“The awards are intended to bring together the best manufacturers in the business to share best practice and to celebrate their achievements,” he said.

“All those short-listed have demonstrated how a dedicated approach to continuous improvement and innovation can deliver superior results.”

The winners will be announced at the awards lunch on September 19 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, Hyde Park in London.
