Innovative companies crowned at Venturefest Yorkshire

A WILL probate business and the developer of an advanced business intelligence dashboard system were the big winners at Venturefest Yorkshire yesterday.

In the investment competition, organised by Yorkshire Association of Business Angels and sponsored by Shepherd Group, Intuitive Business Intelligence was the winner.

The Manchester-based business will receive around £38,000 worth of business support prizes, including office space, professional services, pricing workshops, HR support, PR support, coaching and website development services.

The company is the author of Intuitive Dashboards, what is claimed to be the world’s most advanced business intelligence dashboard solution.

It brings together critical information from multiple sources, allowing business users to create and customise their own graphical, interactive dashboards.

At the innovation showcase event, sponsored and judged by Science City York, The Law Wizard, based in York, was named the winner.

The Law Wizard is a will probate company which judges said had developed technology which could make major changes to the way we create our wills.

Runners up to Aptamer Solutions at Venturefest Yorkshire 2012, the company will receive in the region of £13,000 worth of prizes.

The company was judged by Nicola Spence, chief executive and Heather Niven, Innovation Leader at SCY.

Commenting on the annual event, which saw hundreds of people attend York Racecourse to network and find out more about the brightest technology minds and ventures in the region, Venturefest project manager Chris Wilson said: “For any forward-looking, progressive business it’s important to listen, and be willing to take risks.

“We have listened and taken those risks with some significant changes to the event format this year, and early indications are that we have created a vibrant event and a blueprint that will enable Venturefest Yorkshire to carry on over the next ten years.

“We look forward to the final feedback, which we believe will reaffirm the positive messages we’ve been hearing from delegates and partners.”

Keynote speaker at the event was computer games entrepreneur Charles Cecil.
