US surgeon joins Surgical Innovations

MEDICAL instruments manufacturer Surgical Innovations has appointed a US-based surgeon to its international clinical advisory board.

Sean Barnett, a paediatric and thoracic surgeon who specialises in core trauma and bariatric surgery, works for one of the largest children’s hospital in the US, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre.

The Leeds-based firm specialises in instruments used in laparascopic surgery and it is keen to sell them into new areas, such as the paediatric market.

In a statement the AIM-listed business said the appointment would strengthen its position in the US.

Chief executive Graham Bowland said: “Sean’s expertise in paediatric surgery will help SI focus in this specialist area. SI has a wealth of experience on the UK clinical advisory board and are hoping to mirror this in the coming years with the international clinical advisory board, to include key opinion leaders in different specialties of minimally invasive surgery from our strategic overseas markets.”

Surgical Innovations’ international advisory board works with UK and global clinicians to identify their clinical needs. It is also involved in the design of products.
