Forward Ladies launch 2013 awards

NETWORKING group Forward Ladies has launched the 2013 Women in Business Awards with the news that entries will be extended to the North East for the first time.

Last year saw a record number of entries, attracting female talent throughout Yorkshire.

The winner of the Business Woman of the Year for Yorkshire and the Humber last year was Liz Colleran of Gomersal, who was Hilary Devey’s first investment on Dragon’s Den.

Liz created her company Duvalay after combining a portable memory foam mattress topper with a shaped duvet. And despite the economic down turn, sales figures for Duvalay were up 10 per cent last year.

Liz was also the winner in the manufacturing businesswoman of the year category.

Caroline Pullich, of sponsors Barclays, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Forward Ladies again, celebrating exceptional achievements in tough economic trading conditions.

“These awards encourage an environment that supports women on their entrepreneurial journey and they are a fantastic opportunity for ladies across the region to network and share ideas and knowledge.”

This year’s Yorkshire and North East awards ceremony will take place at the Queens Hotel in Leeds on November 15.

Managing director of Forward Ladies, Etta Cohen, said: “The awards continue to grow both in numbers and reputation, with previous winners setting the standard and inspiring others to set up and to grow their existing businesses. We know the economic climate has been exceptionally tough for all businesses, but by working together and inspiring others, we know that women can help to get this country back on its feet.”

There are 12 categories to enter and the winner of each category will then be considered for the title of Yorkshire and the North East Business Woman of the Year.

O2, Q Hotels and Amplitude AV of Bradford have also been announced as category sponsors.
