A NEW Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme has opened for applications, giving young people the opportunity to work at the heart of Government, the Cabinet Office has announced.

Twelve applicants in Leeds could find themselves working in roles such as in finance and resources within the Court Prosecution Service or as a personal advisor with the Department for Work and Pensions.

The scheme is part of the Civil Service Reform Plan which is making government less bureaucratic, faster and more digital. It will harness the talent and energy of 18-to-21-year-olds who have chosen not to go to university but who have the skills and potential that the Civil Service needs to deliver public services.

Apprentices will have a structured training programme for at least two years as they work towards a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business and Professional Administration. They will learn new skills such as leading projects and managing more junior team members.

A range of government departments are taking part in the pilot of the scheme, with 100 places being made available in Yorkshire, London, the North West and West Midlands.
