Elmwood scoops five top design awards

LEEDS-based creative design agency Elmwood has once again picked up a string of design awards for its work with firms such as Polycell and Haith’s.

The firm has won no less than five Design Effectiveness Awards, which are considered the industry’s benchmark for the commercial impact of design.

Polycell, Haith’s, Melbourne Writers’ Festival, Harrogate-based Waterbrands and Elmwood’s own tea brand Make Mine a Builder’s are among the campaigns to receive the prestigious accolades.

Waterbrands owned drinks label Thirsty Planet has secured listings in major supermarkets, major airlines beating Danone and PepsiCo to “best new brand”. The ethical drink has helped provide clean water for life to more than one million African people in just 12 months.

Bird food manufacturer Haith’s has had to move to bigger premises to cope with demand following a 76% rise in sales of its re-marketed Bill Oddie’s Bird Food.

Polycell’s new design and segmented product range saw them gain £1.4m from own-label and branded competition increasing their share in a market that has been static for the previous three years.

Meanwhile, the camapign featuring “Pencil” for the Melbourne Writers’ Festival attracted the highest attendance figures on record for last year’s festival – increasing sales by 44% and sponsorship b 81%.

Finally, Make Mine a Builder’s tea has grown sales volume by 8% selling 20 million cups of tea and generating in excess of £1,000 for Elmwood.

Nick Ramshaw, Elmwood’s managing director, said that he was “chuffed” that the company was up for so many awards.

“Elmwood has always done well in the Design Effectiveness Awards,” he said.

“We’ve been third in the Designs Business Association’s league table for the past three years, but throughout the entire history of the scheme we’ve won more awards than any other agency.”

He added: “This just goes to show that Elmwood has, and always will, put meeting our client’s business objectives at the heart of our designs.”

Elmwood along with the other winners will discover whether they’ve won gold, silver or bronze in the award categories on November 4 at the Hurlinghmam Club in London.
