DAS Engineering Services targets new markets as it strives for further success

NEW investments and a relocation have helped DAS Engineering Services target new markets and increase production capacity.

The West Yorkshire engineering business, which is undergoing a growth strategy backed by Yorkshire Bank, has created two new jobs, invested in the latest precision engineering technology and relocated from Castleford to Swillington, Leeds. The company is targeting new markets in a business development programme supported by a £300,000 funding package from Yorkshire Bank’s business and private banking centre in Leeds.

Two new apprentices have been taken on by DAS Engineering Services in the past 12 months, taking its total staff to 25. Turnover has grown from £1.5m to £2m in the same period and the business plans to create a further six jobs in the next three years when it plans to grow turnover to £4m.

The precision engineering company, founded in 1990 by engineer and managing director, David Stone and his wife Carole, moved from 3,500 sq ft premises to an 8,500 sq ft, £500,000 facility at Astley Lane Industrial Estate. The move has enabled the business to increase production capacity and continue to meet tight deadlines from customers throughout the UK whose products are exported worldwide.

Mr Stone said: “There has been a substantial upturn for manufacturing in the sectors in which we operate, and we have been operating day and night shifts for the last two years to keep up with demand. We are busy because we have invested in the latest technology and management systems. We do what we promise on time and on budget.

“We were full to capacity at our former premises in terms of manpower and technology, and we had to decide whether to stay there or grow. We decided to move and expand into new sectors including aerospace, wind farms and nuclear technology with a settled and experienced team led by our plant manager, Dave Rogers, who has been with us for 20 years.

“We have always been with Yorkshire Bank. They understand the needs of our business and our sector well and the team at Leeds has been very supportive about our relocation, job creation and growth strategy.”

The engineering business, which manufactures precision parts mainly for special purpose machinery and sophisticated production technology, has also just completed a major contract to manufacture high-pressure core holders for the Wolfson Multiphase Flow Laboratory at the University of Leeds.

Jason Bentley, commercial banking relationship manager at Yorkshire Bank’s business and private banking centre in Leeds, said: “DAS Engineering is a world-class engineering company which is creating opportunities for young people. Yorkshire Bank is pleased to have supported the company since its launch and to be supporting this latest stage in its growth.”

Nicholas Dyson at Blacks Solicitors in Leeds, provided legal advice on the transaction.
