Company of Cutlers positive of economic outlook for Sheffield

THE Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire said it remains positive of the work being done to push forward Sheffield businesses.

David Grey, junior warden at the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire said the last bid of RGF funding in Sheffield has now been allocated to help businesses grow. He said it had 77 bids put in and the first 4 have now been approved.

He said: “The companies who have been successful include some real multipliers and we should know by July if we can get round 4 of RGF, which would make available another £25m.”

The money is aimed at SMEs to “kickstart” business.

The Company of Cutlers, which is celebrating the centenary of stainless steel, with celebrations taking place in Sheffield throughout the year, said it believes the economy is slowly improving.

Master cutler, Neil MacDonald, said: “Most people are saying the economy is getting better. Most of the more modern businesses are positive.”

The Company of Cutlers held a media luncheon at the Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield yesterday.
