LAW firm Clarion’s corporate team has been boosted with the promotion of Jonathan Simms to partner.
Simms joined Clarion in 2002 as a trainee; he qualified in 2004 and was promoted to senior associate two years ago. He has spent the last 11 years in the firm’s corporate team and has developed a reputation for dealing with corporate transactional and banking work for both businesses and institutional funders.
“Jonathan has established a strong reputation in the region, particularly through his work for banks and secondary lenders,” said Richard Moran who heads Clarion’s eight-strong corporate practice.
“This promotion reflects and recognises Jonathan’s achievements and the significant contribution he has made to helping to build the success of our corporate practice.”

GARBUTT & Elliott has recruited a specialist tax consultant to strengthen its tax department.
Sephiat Bolaji, who will be working from both the York and the Leeds offices of the accountants, joins from Ernst & Young in Newcastle.
Bolaji studied law at Northumbria University. After graduating in 2010, she joined Ernst & Young a year later. She worked there for two years as a personal tax assistant and gained her ATT (Association of Tax Technicians) qualification.
She will be working with the firm’s head of tax Nick Scull, who said: “I am delighted to welcome Sephiat to our expanding tax department. Her enthusiasm and expertise will be an invaluable asset to the department and help to service our growing client base.”

ADDLESHAW Goddard has announced a new role for Mark Haywood who will combine his client and advisory responsibilities with leadership of the firm’s real estate division.
The appointment takes immediate effect, with Adrian Collins stepping down as real estate division managing partner to concentrate full time on client work and on a number of the firm’s significant client relationships.
Paul Devitt, managing partner, said: “I am extremely grateful to Adrian for four successful years as head of the real estate division. Under his leadership we are stronger now in many respects, despite difficult market conditions. I am also pleased that Mark will now build on that strong platform.”

ANDREW Price has joined Leeds commercial law firm Milners Solicitors as head of commercial property.
Price has more than 16 years’ experience in the commercial property sector having previously worked for Gordons and Ison Harrison.
His role will be to be develop and grow the already established commercial property department of Milners, whilst bringing with him extensive experience in this sector.
He said: “Milners is a young, forward thinking and ambitious firm and an exciting place to be. I hope to bring my experience to the firm with the hope of developing the commercial property department for the practice.”
