Naylor anticipates growth in its fast-expanding export business

HISTORIC family-run building materials manufacturer, Naylor Industries, is anticipating a significant increase in its export business.

The South Yorkshire company announced this week that it has obtained a London 2012 Supplier Recognition Licence for its part it played in the Olympics and said it believes this will help it develop its export business.

Naylor was a major supplier of pipes – both clay and plastic – to the Olympic venues and much of the Olympic Park had Naylor pipe under it, including the Velodrome and the Athletes’ village. The contract was worth around £0.5m.

Naylor CEO, Edward Naylor, said: “The kudos associated with this project will help us develop our export business. We currently export over £3m per year – around 10% of our turnover – and this is anticipated to increase significantly over coming years given the infrastructure needs of much of the developing world. Given the high international profile of the Games, this will be particularly beneficial to our fast expanding export department.

“In particular there are very good opportunities for Denlok, our clay jacking pipe, which can be laid without needing to dig a trench, which minimises surface disruption when installing infrastructure in urban areas.”

Naylor said it currently has significant projects underway in South East Asia and the Gulf.

In the UK, Barnsley-based Naylor sells to many of the UK’s major civil engineering and groundworks contractors through a network of builders merchants and civil engineering distributors.

Naylor was founded in 1890 and present chief executive Edward Naylor is the fourth generation of the family to head up the business.

Earlier this year, TheBusinessDesk.com reported how the family-run company’s management comepleted a deal to take over the running of the business.

In the year to February 2012 it had a 14% increase in turnover to £36.6m with operating profits of £2.4m.
