Medical manufacturer powers through expansion plans

MEDICAL equipment manufacturer, Brandon Medical, is continuing to expand after completing a £2m investment as it celebrates 20 years in business.

Earlier this year, the innovative med-tech company relocated to a new 51,000 sq ft factory in Morley, Leeds, in order to support its continued growth. The investment has allowed the company to double the size of its previous facilities, increase staff numbers and look forward to launching new products later this year.

Ria Cusimano, marketing manager at Brandon, which is predominantly known for manufacturing surgical lighting, said: “We made a £2m investment in the new state-of-the-art factory as we thought it was the right time to invest more in the company.

“Our factory is much bigger now and we are manufacturing an awful lot more. We are exporting to about 50 different countries around the world. We are also generating new jobs.”

Since its move, the £6.5m turnover firm, owned by the Hall family, has employed five new members of staff and is on the lookout for more.

Brandon Medical also said it is launching new products later this year, which will be a “big investment” for the company.

Brandon Medical has patented its product HD-LED – an operating theatre light and is currently working with a consortium to develop the technology and take it to the next level. This is due to be completed by the end of 2014.

In 1993, managing director Graeme Hall and his family made the decision to acquire Brandon Engineering and apply their expertise to develop their own manufacturing business. In 1995, Graeme’s brother, Adrian Hall, joined Brandon Medical and brought with him production management and sales experience from Unilever, re-branding the company from engineering, into a medical devices company.

During the past 20 years, the company has increased its portfolio of products and developed new technologies for the healthcare sector.

It now employs over 50 people and continues to grow.

Ms Cusimano said: “It is great to celebrate 20 years in business and still be making new products. Everyone is very pleased and excited about the future.”
